Company Founders

William Heaton is one of the Dover Synergy founders.

Heaton has been with the Company since January 2002. Prior to joining the Company, was President and Co-Founder of Grand Designs, Ltd., a computer consultancy in the Puget Sound area and contributed as an employee of xSides Corporation as a staff scientist. Heaton helped create the first computerized editorial system for the Chicago Tribune and the first computer based “Stock Ticker” ticker tape system broadcast on TV at Financial Network News (later acquired by CNBC). Heaton was one of the original developers for the Microsoft Windows NT system and provided significant development of “Windbg”, the kernel debugger for the Windows NT operating system. Heaton has been a leader in the development of Video related software including the award winning Scenarist DVD authoring system, the low-bit rate encoding system developed for Microsoft, and the touch screen interface developed for the Grass Valley Group’s flag ship video production system; “Kalypso”. Heaton has multiple patents in the area of video processing, with pending patents in the area of security. Heaton attended college at the Portland Community College, and University of Portland.

David Nason is one of the Dover Synergy founders.

Nason has been with the Company since March 2002. Prior to joining the Company, Nason was Chief Technology Officer and Chief Scientist at xSides Corporation as well as the principal inventor of its patented technology. He continues his association with xSides Corporation as well as many other multimedia, security and intellectual property concerns. Nason has numerous patents in these areas, both granted and pending. Nason has led the design and architecture of several graphical user interfaces, including“social interfaces” such as Packard Bell Navigator, Planet Oasis, Kidspace and Workspace. Prior to that, Nason was a co-founder ofSoftware Grove, an electronic messaging and email technology company. Nason is a pioneer in the multimedia arena, spearheading Microsoft's early efforts in this area as Technical Director of Microsoft’s CDROM and Multimedia Divisions, where he led the architecture and development of the company's first interactive media titles, including Encarta and Microsoft Bookshelf, both top sellers worldwide. In addition to his groundbreaking research on the Mach operating system, the Matchmaker interprocess communication specification language, and the Spice distributed personal computing environment (which included the Accent network operating system) at Carnegie Mellon University, Nason also pursued a Master of Science degree in computer science and undergraduate degrees in administrative science and advanced mathematics. Nason also had nine years of military service in Army intelligence and operations.

John Painter is one of the Dover Synergy founders.

Painter has been with the Company since Januray 2002. Prior to joining the Company, Painter was a Co-Founder of Grand Designs, Ltd., a computer consultancy in the Puget Sound area and a full-time research scientist with xSides Corporation. Painter has been a leader in the field of computer aided video processing and image processing developing several proof of concept products for Microsoft and various military projects. Painter has a long history of work in the operating systems design, image processing and windowing technology field dating back to the late seventies with Digital Equipment Corporation and early entrants into the high performance graphics workstation business such as Raster Technologies and Apollo. While actively involved in the graphics community, Painter has also been involved in a diverse range of other projects in file systems research and hierarchical data storage. Painter has patents and pending patents in image processing, video processing and user interface design with several pending patents for novel user interface methods in the realm of security and set-top box interfaces. Painter received both undergraduate and post graduate instruction at Michigan State University.
